Last, but by no means least...
Almost the last day of August and the last Bank Street Residency 2016 Artist gets inducted! We welcome Charlie Lang for what will be the last month of the residency, September. The induction started promptly at 8.15 am and Charlie's beaming smile lights the room despite the early hour!
Chirpy Charlie clutches his remote for the induction!
After scoring 100% in the H & S test Charlie is given a guided tour of the Bank Street Construction site by Health and Safety Officer, Rory. Antony and myself also went along for the tour. Equipping Charlie with footwear was slightly problematic as our Charlie is not short on inches and actually I was pretty sure he'd grown since I'd last seen him! Charlie's 6'7'' comes with size 14 feet which unfortunately meant squeezing his feet in a size 13 boot as this was the largest available size. Today also marked Antony's first day of his term at the residency. A great, if not early, start to the day.
Charlie towers - proving he's nearly as tall as a crane!
Charlie squeezes his feet into a size 13!
Antony gets up close and personal with the slip form!
Suitably clad in his PPE Charlie listens while Rory gives some technical building backgrounds to the Bank Street project.
Rory very kindly led us all in to the depth of the construction site pit. The most noticeable change is how the slip form has grown over the two months we have been in part of the residency. The slip form is the core of the building and has the black screen surrounding it. The object is for the concrete to be poured in 2 meters per day, which is around 80 cement lorry fulls. By 23rd of December 2016, the slip form is scheduled to be complete!
The temperature is sizzling and down in the pit the degrees are higher than at group level. This guy must be roasting.
Whilst outside the construction site an office worker relaxes at lunchtime with his yoga. Shame he was doing dog head down and not sun salutations!
We were all able to gain some valuable research material and resources to help us start or further our investigations.
