September Tides
As September weather swings from sultry to autumnal the Bank Street Artists Residency 2016 enters its final month. We are working towards presenting our ideas and projects at the end of the month within the residency space.
We have built a really good rapport with our very generous hosts at Bank Street Construction site and also with another Canary Wharf Construction site at Wood Wharf. We have some very exciting projects developing within the residency as well as some potential future projects being discussed with Canary Wharf Contractors. We feel we have plenty of room to develop and work alongside in this fascinating environment.
It has stuck me that rebar is such a huge part of the hard landscape, it is both visible and invisible much like the people that work and visit Canary Wharf
The rebar strengthens the buildings it is at the core. The people that construct the buildings use rebar - so much rebar...so many workers, so many people...both on the construction site and on the Wharf...
One cannot get away from rebar or people
Suits and non suits...
The concrete posts strengthened by rebar is revealed like a lost ancient city and ...
the rebar is then broken down, demolished...
There are moments of calm where nature makes an appearance by the waters edge...
Then the waterways are disturbed by the construction traffic...
Golden Eye duck family embrace the waters of Canary Wharf...
This is a fascinating environment which takes time to absorb and respond to creatively. I am looking forward to see the other residency artists work develop just like a construction site there are many ideas, some will eventually become fully formed whilst others will be demolished or reconstructed.
